Applications are now open for St Nicholas Pathways’ 2027 Early Childhood School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) program.
The program gives Catholic secondary students entering Year 11 in 2027 the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, paid workplace experience and a head start on a rewarding career in early childhood education and care, all while completing their HSC.
Successful applicants will combine their school studies with structured training and practical experience at a St Nicholas Early Education centre.
Through the program, students will:
- Work towards a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care while completing their HSC
- Be paid while completing a minimum of 100 days of practical workplace training at a St Nicholas Early Education centre
- Gain the qualifications and experience needed to begin a career as an Early Childhood Educator
- Build a pathway to further study, including a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or a degree in early childhood or primary teaching
- Demonstrate their skills, professionalism and suitability for future employment opportunities with St Nicholas
By learning in a real early education environment, students can develop practical skills, build their confidence and gain valuable insight into what it is like to work with children as part of a professional education and care team.
Ten positions are available for the 2027 program. School staff are encouraged to share this opportunity with eligible students who may be interested in beginning a career in early childhood education and care.
Applications close Sunday 23 August 2026.
