This year, our Upper Hunter centres embraced the opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of their local communities as they commemorated ANZAC Day. Children, alongside educators and families, joined in local marches and ceremonies dedicated to honouring the service and sacrifice of past, present and future defence personnel.
From walking proudly in community parades to laying wreaths with care, our St Nicholas Early Education children and educators represented their centres with respect and dignity. Their involvement reflects our commitment to nurturing meaningful community connections and helping children understand the importance of belonging to something bigger than themselves.
“We march to remember them”
In preparing for these events, our educators thoughtfully introduced the values of gratitude, respect and remembrance in ways that were gentle, age‑appropriate and grounded in children’s natural curiosity. Through stories, conversations and hands‑on experiences, children learned why ANZAC Day is significant and how communities come together to honour those who have served.
By participating in these ceremonies, our children not only deepened their understanding of ANZAC Day but also experienced the power of community, empathy and shared tradition – lessons that will continue to shape their learning.
