Make your own slime!

In honour of National Science Week we have a fun activity for our learners.

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. It provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public, and to encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in.

Our educators weave in STEM related activities into the programs that they deliver for learners at St Nicholas Early Education and OOSH to support learners in exploring and challenging scientific phenomenas and theories.

On par with this year’s theme of unpacking and honouring our brilliant eco-system we have a fun sensory experiment that learners can do at home. Follow these simple steps to create your very own custom slime:

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cup glue
  2. 1/4 cup liquid starch
  3. 1/4 cup water
  4. Food Colouring (optional)
  5. Glitter (Optional)
  6. Eco-system themed accessories (optional)

Step 1

Mix the 1/2 cup glue and 1/4 cup liquid starch in a bowl.

Step 2

Add 1/4 cup water and stir until combined.

Step 3

Customise with food colouring, glitter and accessories, if desired.

Step 4

Knead until slime forms, then store in an airtight container.
