‘What to do in an emergency’ program

Our St Nicholas Early Education Raymond Terrace learners took part in a comprehensive and crucial program that provides essential lessons on what they can do in an emergency.

These lessons included:

  1. How to recognise an emergency
  2. How to call 000 to access emergency services using a fantastic trainer app
  3. How to roll a person into a recovery position
  4. Simple bleeding control.

Through practical exercises based on the above, they strengthened their confidence in how to be proactive, provide assistance to someone in need, and how to communicate to the triple zero operators when calling for help.

The second part of the program covered the principles of the NSW Office of Children’s Guardian Child Safe Standards. Our learners explored the messages in the ‘My Underpants Rule’ book which helped them to form a better understanding of how to express their boundaries and the children identified ‘safe grown-ups’ they could go to if they ever felt scared or uncomfortable.

How parents and carers can reinforce learning at home:

These educational programs provide our learners with key skills, confidence and identifiers in knowing when, why and how to seek help. Parents and Carers can further contribute to and strengthen this learning at home with the support of some fantastic resources that are available through the below providers.
