We have reached the conclusion of our Immersion and School-Based Traineeship (SBAT) programs for the year, marking a significant milestone. Our Immersion programs have set a new record, with well over 300 students participating, and our SBAT program has seen an unprecedented level of interest, resulting in over 60 successful applicants. These achievements are a testament to the dedication of our teams at St Nicholas, who have made our programs highly sought after in both Catholic and public school systems.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our graduating SBATs, who are now preparing for their exams and embarking on the next phase of their journey—whether it be further studies, employment with us, or exploring other career opportunities. We urge them to take a moment to reflect on their incredible accomplishments over the past two years. From the initial interviews and welcome days to their first days of service, they have not only completed their Cert III but have also excelled in their academic pursuits. Moreover, they have forged meaningful relationships with their colleagues, trainers, children, and families at their respective services. Their hard work and dedication in balancing their studies with other commitments, such as school, SBAT responsibilities, part-time jobs, social and family life, as well as sports and hobbies, deserve recognition.
We want to emphasise how much we value and appreciate our graduating SBATs for being an integral part of the St Nicholas team. We eagerly anticipate witnessing their future successes. To celebrate their achievements, we are organising an afternoon tea celebration for our SBATs on Thursday 26 October from 3-5pm.
We are delighted to welcome two new trainers, Rachel and Jess, to our Pathways team. Their expertise and enthusiasm have already made a positive impact on our students and programs.
Both Jess and Rachel are dedicated to providing high-quality education and care to young children, and they are enthusiastic about guiding and shaping our future Educators.
Additionally, we are launching enrolments for our CONNEX program in 2024, which offers face-to-face training that leads to a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education. We have planned several information sessions throughout October and November. Please share this information with anyone interested in pursuing a career in early childhood.
In the past few months, I had the privilege of attending two conferences: a Vocational Training Conference in Melbourne and the Early Childhood Australia (ECA) Conference in Adelaide. Alongside my St Nicholas colleagues and other early childhood professionals, I delved into enriching sessions and engaging conversations. One notable session focused on nature play, exploring where and how children play. We discussed the importance of agreements over rules and had hands-on experiences with natural materials, fostering creative exploration. Another key takeaway was the emphasis on celebrating all brains, especially concerning neurodivergent children and educators. Additionally, we explored strategies for workplace wellbeing, including the implementation of wellbeing pages and collaborative efforts with our teams. A particularly impactful session discussed the Marte Meo approach practiced at The Briars, a unique service in Adelaide. This approach emphasises the value of connection and patience, allowing us to understand a child’s needs better. I am more than willing to discuss these insights further; please feel free to reach out.
During my Melbourne trip, Carolyn and I stumbled upon a remarkable playground in the heart of the city. This discovery showcased a wonderful blend of natural and man-made elements, encouraging risk-taking and exploration. The experience reinforced the idea that hidden gems, like this playground, inspire both children and adults alike.
Once again, congratulations to our graduating SBATs, and a warm welcome to our new trainers, Jess and Rachel. We look forward to the bright future ahead for all of you.
