The Great Lakes is just a few hammer and nails closer to welcoming its first, new early education service in close to two decades.

The roofing has been installed, while internal and external walls of St Nicholas Early Education Forster, are well underway.

Once complete, the purpose-built centre will offer additional support to families in the region by increasing access to early education and care at a time of growing local demand.

Expected to open in early 2026, the new centre will form part of the Forster Catholic education precinct, located alongside Holy Name Primary School.

Jacinta Gillies, Head of Early Education, St Nicholas, said the new centre would respond to the growing needs for early education in regional centres amidst the growth in population in the Great Lakes area.

“We know there is increasing demand from families seeking early education options in Forster, and we’re committed to helping meet that need,” Ms Gillies said.

“St Nicholas will provide the foundation for an enriching and seamless educational journey, grounded in the Catholic values of kindness, curiosity and respect for all,” she said.

“Our services are dedicated to giving children the best possible start to life and learning, whether that is through our evidence-based programs, strong community partnerships, or commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing.”

St Nicholas is a leading provider of early education and care across the Newcastle, Hunter and Manning regions.

Its network supports children from birth to 12 years through early education (0-5 years), out of school hours care (5-12 years), and offers employment pathways for those pursuing careers in the sector.

Families enrolled at St Nicholas Early Education Forster will also receive greater priority enrolment to Holy Name Primary School, offering a smooth and supportive transition into primary education.

Recruitment for a centre director is already underway.
