When discussions began around the struggles koalas face in our local environment we asked many confronting questions. What happens when koalas lose their homes? Where do they go when trees disappear? What struggles have you seen for Koalas in our area?
These questions sparked meaningful conversations and learning around sustainability, conservation, and the role we all play in caring for our environment.
With these discussions at the forefront of our minds and with a selection of art resources, students created pieces that demonstrate some of the struggles Koalas face in the local area, children hope these artworks create awareness and initiate thoughts and conversations amongst the viewers to inspire change and protection for koalas in their local area.
Koalas on Canvas
Guided by their educators, St Nicholas OOSH Forster’s students are proudly partaking in the MidCoast Koala Art Competition, which forms part of the Safe Spaces Program. It’s an initiative that empowers young environmental advocates to express their conservation ideas through art.
Entering this competition empowers students to engage with their local conservation efforts through creative expression and developing their sense of place within their local community.
Growing green minds
This creative project supports students in finding mediums to communicate their ideas and inspire change that addresses matters of concern. Through colour, storytelling, and problem-solving, students are learning how to communicate their ideas and speak up for the issues that matter most to them. St Nicholas OOSH Forster will continue to provide a program that supports students love of the outdoors, connecting to nature and finding ways to contribute to a more sustainable future.
