This unique experience brought not only a sense of wonder and joy to our young learners but also provided invaluable learning experiences for all involved.

Improving reading skills: Reading is a fundamental skill that forms a strong foundation for learning. By engaging in shared reading sessions, both our early learners and primary learners can enhance their reading abilities. Through expanding and practicing their vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency and comprehension. This shared learning moment, enables young learners to increase their abilities and our primary learners to expand their ability to support our young learners in expanding their understanding through their explanations.

Enhancing communication skills: In reading to our younger learners, our primary students are taking on the role of storytellers. Guiding their younger peers through the intricacies of each narrative, they are learning to express themselves clearly and concisely adapting their language to increase the comprehension level of their audience. Concurrently, our young learners are building their active listening skills as they absorb the story, ask questions and confidently ask for more detailed explanations; honing their communication skills and confidence in expressing their ideas and feelings.

Cultivating Emotional Intelligence: Stories enable children to explore complex feelings and understand the perspectives of others through a different lens. In engaging with their reading buddies, they can share interpretations and explore a range of emotions.

Fostering collaboration and peer learning: Collaborative learning creates the perfect environment for learners to share ideas and learn from each other’s understandings. This learning style challenges team work and social skills whilst instilling a sense of belonging.

Enabling a love of learning: In tune with our values, we aim to instill a lifelong love of learning. Reading exercises like these, foster self and peer-directed learning that can develop into a lifelong passion. This passion is driven by a thirst for knowledge which they can continually engage with as they journey through their education.

In providing these unique learning experiences, our Singleton staff are enabling young learners to collaborate, share and encourage learning. Thank you to all involved in making this happen.
