Children and educators at St Nicholas Early Education Fletcher welcomed Amos from Muurrung Murai, whose passion for sharing Aboriginal culture created a vibrant, sensory-rich learning experience for our children. Through song, dance, and language, Amos invited the children into moments of joy, curiosity, and cultural connection. These experiences weren’t just engaging – they supported the children in building a relationship with the stories, traditions, and Country that surround them every day.
This visit encouraged children to learn through active participation, movement, and meaningful interaction. When children are immersed in experiences that honour place and culture, they develop a deeper sense of belonging and an understanding of their role within the community. Amos’s hands-on approach echoed the way we value exploration, wonder, and learning that grows from authentic encounters.
This experience also strengthened our commitment to community engagement. By inviting local cultural knowledge holders into our centre, we create opportunities for children to form real connections with the people who help shape the identity of our wider community. These relationships enrich our program and support children in developing respect, empathy, and appreciation for the diversity around them.
Amos’s visit was more than a cultural performance – it was a shared moment of learning, connection, and celebration. It reminded us of the power of community partnerships and the importance of grounding children’s learning in experiences that honour both culture and Country.
