Attention ‘World-Changers’: A Message from the Pedagogy Team

Angie Freeman, St Nicholas’ Pedagogy and Practice Manager, shares some insights about what the Pedagogy team has in store for the coming year.

Attention World-Changers!

I would like to share some insights with you about what the Pedagogy team has in store for the coming year, and also invite your feedback on what you expect from us.

When I talk about ‘World Changers,’ I want to emphasise that this is not just a casual remark. My approach and beliefs about our ability to shape the future are based on critical theory, as well as research such as the Heckman Equation and the E4Kids study. The work you do as educators is incredibly important and has a significant impact on our society, nation, and world. Pedagogy, which is the art and science of teaching, is an essential part of that work. My role as Pedagogy and Practice Manager is to inspire and excite everyone about their work, because that’s what children deserve.

This year, our focus is on supporting, guiding, coaching, and mentoring. We want to encourage deeper engagement with self-assessments and a greater understanding of the ‘why’ behind curriculum decisions. I believe that meaningful documentation, project work, and utilising children’s voices are important aspects of being ‘Reggio inspired.’ We will be sharing more video vignettes of practice and offering weekly ‘pedagogy post-its’ with insights into current practice trends and ongoing reflection. I also hope to see our leaders, particularly our Educational Leaders, engaging with contemporary and theoretical frameworks to explore new ways of working with their teams and children.

If you share my goal of sector leadership and organisational pride, then we need to get started. I am eager to hear your ideas and see the ways in which you are changing the world. So please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts with me.
